The ONE ("Orchestrating Numeracy and the Executive") Programme is a cluster randomised controlled trial (RCT) aiming to improve the early foundations of numeracy and executive functions in the early years, through a combination of professional development for educators and activities to be played by the children. After a successful pilot and feasibility RCT (Scerif et al., 2025, npj Science of Learning), the programme has been delivered to 150 early years settings in England, and outcomes independently evaluated for approximately 2000 3-4 year-old children. This project is funded by the COVID-19 Recovery efforts by the Department for Education and Stronger Practice Hubs. The project interfaces with Flourishing, because programme activities are play based explorations often involving the natural environment. Secondary outcomes also include wellbeing outcomes for educators from professional development and the activities.
