The study aims to analyze the current area-based effectiveness of the PAs, climate vulnerabilities and risks of Nepal's PAs, predict shifts in 'climate space' within PAs under the future climate scenarios, and identify the climate vulnerability of Nepal's threatened species. This proposed study will help to identify and prioritize the PAs and threatened species that require high conservation and adaptation effort in the context of changing climate. Additionally, it also assists to recognize suitable areas for expansion of PAs to cover at least 30% of country's land area under protection by 2030-the targets of the government of Nepal (DNPWC 2022) and the post 2020 biodiversity framework (CBD 2022).
