Doctoral Training Grant

This grant funds the training of the next generation of scientists through Doctoral Training Partnerships, not a specific research project. The problem it addresses is a structural one: the UK needs a steady pipeline of skilled researchers to sustain its bioscience and biotechnology sectors. Without coordinated funding for postgraduate training, individual labs and universities would struggle to provide the breadth of expertise—from molecular biology to computational modelling—that the economy and public health infrastructure require. If this training succeeds, the impact is diffuse but fundamental. The researchers produced will go on to work in universities, agritech companies, pharmaceutical firms, and environmental agencies.
