This grant funds a cohort of PhD students across a range of science and engineering disciplines at Lancaster University. The core problem it addresses is a shortage of skilled researchers in the UK. Without sustained investment in doctoral training, the country risks falling behind in developing the expertise needed to drive innovation in fields such as advanced manufacturing, digital technologies, energy systems, and healthcare.
