Nine in ten UK researchers say research integrity is sometimes compromised. UKRN Services trains researchers and institutions to adopt open, transparent practices—sharing data, methods, and results more rigorously—so that the public can trust what research claims. The problem is that without consistent standards, flawed or irreproducible findings can slip through, eroding confidence in science that informs policy, medicine, and public debate. This project provides tailored training, strategic consultancy, and generates meta-research—studies on how research itself is done—to identify what actually works in improving rigour. If successful, the UK research ecosystem becomes more credible and efficient: fewer wasted resources on unreproducible studies, stronger evidence for government decisions, and greater public willingness to act on scientific advice. The impact is systemic rather than directly consumer-facing—it strengthens the infrastructure that produces reliable knowledge, from clinical trial protocols to climate modelling assumptions. Because the work focuses on changing institutional practices and generating evidence about those changes, its benefits will accumulate gradually, but the goal is a research culture where transparency is the default, not the exception.
