The main goal of this study is to see how well a non-invasive lactate sensor measures lactate levels compares to standard blood tests. This could reduce the need for frequent blood draws during surgery recovery and make patients more comfortable. It will also help us decide if the lactate sensor can be used for other patients, like those in the emergency room with chest pain, where lactate levels can help make a quick diagnosis. This study will take place at Barts Hospital with patients having planned coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) +/- replacement valve surgery. Participants will wear the sensor on their upper arm for up to 14 hours, during which the sensor will continuously measure lactate levels. Participants will also have hourly blood samples taken. In the future, the data from this new device will be used to train computer algorithms to provide quick responses that help manage a patient's condition, improving future medical care and technology.
