In this experimental medicine study, we will randomise healthy volunteers into 6 groups of different levels of nature exposure in a longitudinal study and we will follow the day-to-day changes in self-reported well-being over a course of 3 months. The study will make use of recent advances in computational neuroscience to quantify the effects of nature exposure on negative and positive affective bias, as well as environmental value-based decision-making. We will utilise physiological markers such as pupil dilation, and biological markers such as actigraphy and salivary cortisol levels measured longitudinally. This rich data collection approach will help us to dissect the effect of exposure to nature across multiple behavioural and biological domains and will help generating concrete hypotheses to be tested in subsequent case -control experimental intervention studies.
