BBSRC Doctoral Training Grant - 2005

This grant funds doctoral training partnerships, not a specific research project — it provides the structure and money to train the next generation of PhD scientists across the UK. The problem it addresses is straightforward: without sustained investment in postgraduate training, the UK loses its pipeline of skilled researchers. Research councils need a mechanism to support cohorts of students across multiple universities and institutes, rather than funding individual projects one at a time. This grant creates that mechanism. The impact is systemic rather than immediate.
