Doctoral Training Grant

BBSRC is funding doctoral training partnerships that will train the next generation of bioscience researchers across UK universities and research organisations. This matters because the UK needs a steady pipeline of skilled scientists to maintain its position in bioscience research and innovation. Without sustained investment in postgraduate training, the country would struggle to fill research roles in academia, industry, and public sector organisations that depend on advanced biological knowledge. The potential impact is long-term and indirect. These training grants do not fund specific research projects with immediate applications. Instead, they build the human capital that will eventually produce discoveries in areas such as agriculture, biotechnology, medicine, and environmental science. The students trained through these partnerships will go on to work in settings that range from pharmaceutical companies to food manufacturers, from environmental agencies to university laboratories.
