Industrial CASE Account - Cambridge 2010

This grant does not fund a specific research project. It is a training account that supports doctoral studentships across multiple research areas at the University of Cambridge. The funding mechanism—an Industrial CASE Account—connects PhD students with industrial partners. Students spend time working in a company alongside their academic research, gaining direct experience of how fundamental science translates into commercial products or processes. The problem this addresses is the gap between academic training and the skills industry needs. Without such partnerships, early-career researchers may emerge from their doctorates with limited exposure to real-world applications, slowing the transfer of knowledge from labs into products. If this training succeeds, it produces a cohort of scientists and engineers who understand both deep research and commercial constraints.
