This grant funds the training of PhD students across a range of scientific and engineering disciplines at Newcastle University. Doctoral Training Partnerships provide the backbone of the UK’s research workforce. Without sustained funding for postgraduate training, the country would lack the skilled researchers needed to staff university labs, corporate R&D departments, and public-sector science agencies. This grant addresses that gap by supporting a cohort of doctoral students who will spend three to four years tackling fundamental and applied research problems. The impact is indirect but essential.
