Centre for Data Analytics and Society

The Centre for Data Analytics and Society will train a new generation of doctoral researchers in data science, funded through a Doctoral Training Partnership. This addresses a critical skills gap: the UK needs more experts who can work with large, complex datasets across sectors like healthcare, transport, and public policy. The training will equip students with both technical skills—such as machine learning and statistical modelling—and the ability to apply these tools to real-world problems. If successful, the centre will produce highly skilled graduates who can improve systems that quietly underpin daily life: more efficient energy grids, better traffic management, faster medical diagnoses, or more responsive public services. The research itself is not about a single breakthrough; it is about building the human infrastructure for a data-driven economy.
