SYNBIO-CSIC (CSIC Doctoral Programme in Synthetic Biology: Engineering Biomolecular and Cellular Systems) is a new, cutting-edge doctoral programme led by the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) and coordinated through the Margarita Salas Biological Research Centre (CIB-CSIC). It aims to recruit 20 doctoral researchers to provide them with a new dimension of training through highly interdisciplinary & intersectoral research in Synthetic and Engineering Biology under three major thematic areas (bottom-up, top-down, and computational synthetic biology): from fundamental studies to translational solutions in sustainability and health. The programme operates under the principles of Open Science and maintains the highest research quality standards. It represents a stepping stone towards the implementation of a long-term collaborative agreement in the frame of the CSIC Hub for Synthetic Biology through a multidisciplinary and innovative approach. SYNBIO-CSIC includes 50+ options for research projects with prestigious supervisors and the availability of world-class research infrastructures. The recruited fellows will benefit from an outstanding training programme that combines research-oriented and demanding soft skills, including practical hands-on-schools, training in research diversity and scientific & communication skills, and a retreat for personal development. The collaboration with several Associated Partner organizations, including Universities, private companies, and research centres, further enhances the international & intersectoral aspects of the programme. Altogether, SYNBIO-CSIC offers the perfect environment for training doctoral researchers in synthetic biology and related disciplines, thus creating many future opportunities for doctoral fellows and a source of excellent researchers as future leaders in this frontline area.
