Social INnovation methods and Tools for Communities Affected by Transition(s)

The SINTACT project (Social Innovation Methods and Tools for Communities Affected by Transition(s)) aims to develop social innovation tools and methods to support regions in achieving a fair and inclusive transition towards a green economy. As Europe moves towards climate neutrality, communities reliant on fossil fuels and traditional industries face growing uncertainty, with rising unemployment and energy poverty disproportionately affecting vulnerable groups such as youth, women, and the elderly.To tackle these issues, the project takes a comparative international approach, spanning three European countries (Bulgaria, Romania, and the UK) and five non-European nations (Vietnam, Sri Lanka, Iraq, Japan, and Morocco). What sets SINTACT apart is its cross-regional perspective, combining systemic, participatory, and interdisciplinary methodologies. Through analyzing socio-economic vulnerabilities, developing social innovation strategies, and quantifying social value, the project will generate a set of valuable outputs for policy makers. This will be facilitated by SINTACT’s open science approach, which ensures that all research findings, methodologies, and tools are widely accessible. The SINTACT consortium brings together universities, research centers, and social enterprises with expertise in economics, sociology, social entrepreneurship, and sustainability. The project’s extensive research and training programme will facilitate 190 person-months of staff exchanges across Europe, Asia, and North Africa. This interdisciplinary and intersectoral collaboration ensures that SINTACT’s findings will empower policymakers, businesses, and communities in shaping socially equitable green transition strategies.
