The Global Research Collaboration for Infectious Disease Preparedness (GloPID-R) is a worldwide network of funding agencies working together to invest in research on new or re-emerging infectious diseases. GloPID-R aims to improve preparedness for (re-)emerging diseases and to speed up the research response to outbreaks with pandemic potential through coordinated funding investment. The ultimate aim of the network is to impact global health by saving lives. This project will support the activities of the GloPID-R secretariat, operating as a partnership between the EDCTP Association and the University of Oxford (UOXF). Under this project, the secretariat will provide organisational and administrative support to the GloPID-R Board and members to facilitate collaborative working and efficient information exchange among all GloPID-R members and stakeholders. Developing and implementing a comprehensive communication, advocacy and engagement plan for the GloPID-R community will ensure that members are well-informed and aligned, will engage new members to expand the network, and to raise awareness about and engagement in GloPID-R by external stakeholders. The GloPID-R coordinated funding mechanism will be developed and refined, with the two calls for proposals implemented during the lifetime of this project. The aim is to develop a fully operational funding mechanism that can be activated immediately in the event of a public health emergency. The secretariat will develop and update the GloPID-R strategic agenda and readiness plan, as well as producing its annual workplans, following the annual meeting of members. The secretariat’s scientific, technical and policy-related activities, a tested framework underpinning a rapid, effective research response and strengthening research preparedness and response, including in cross-cutting areas such as data sharing, social science, clinical trial networks, will be developed further and disseminated widely.
