Once next-generation aircraft enter operation, their numbers are expected to grow rapidly. However, there will be challenges for the ATM system to be able to fully integrate these new air-vehicles from the start. Their operations must take place safely, efficiently and without a disproportional impact on the already existing air traffic. Hence, there is a need to understand the requirements of the new fleet mix, to be able to clearly quantify its impact on the ATM system and overall, on the environment. This necessitates the i) clear screening of the users’ demand to travel to specific destinations covered by the new aircraft; ii) quantification of performance of the new aircraft/propulsion systems, for the specific trajectories (i.e. very short and short haul routes, underserved destinations), iii) integration of corresponding energy flow metrics into the ATM system.To this end, the main ambition of INGERA is to integrate the operations of a clearly defined future aircraft fleet mix based on conventional and novel hybrid- and fully-electric propulsion systems, covering the very short and short range, to provide an implementation plan through a roadmap of recommendations for ATM developments. To achieve this, the project aims to i) assess impacts of the proposed fleet mix on trajectory prediction, ii) identify and assess the new operational procedures, iii) identify bottlenecks and constraints both on air and ground (airport) level. As such, the project will develop a clear link between its solution and the development priority AR-3 of ATM Master Plan, as it will integrate the next-generation performance characteristics as foreseen in the AZEA CONOPS and the Clean Aviation JU programme, into the ATM aspects.
