"AIMARIA delivers a digital-to-pilot pipeline to unlock the vast but underexploited biosynthetic capacity of marine microbiomes. The project combines AI-driven prioritisation, digital twins, and AI-powered predictive DNA design with advanced synthetic biology, cell-free systems, and engineered novel and established microbial chassis. Through this integrated approach, AIMARIA will deliver sustainable and scalable access to high-value marine natural products, including stalled oncology candidates, such as Peloruside A and Pateamine A, and discover first-in-class bioactive compounds and enzymes. By demonstrating TRL 6–7 production routes, embedding life cycle and techno-economic assessments, and ensuring compliance with international biodiversity frameworks (Nagoya, KM-GBF, BBNJ), AIMARIA directly supports the EU Bioeconomy Strategy and its objectives to develop sustainable, circular bio-based solutions. The project will strengthen Europe’s leadership in blue biotechnology, accelerate innovation across multiple industrial sectors, and support the objectives of the EU Green Deal and Mission “Restore our Ocean and Waters""."
