European Co-organisation of the International HPC Summer Schools 2026-29

The EuroIHPCSS project will sustain Europe’s participation in the International HPC Summer School (IHPCSS) from 2026 to 2029, co-organising four annual events with partners from Australia, Canada, Japan, South Africa and the United States. Each school will host graduate students and early-career researchers worldwide, including up to 40 participants from EuroHPC Participating States, offering an intensive, week-long training and mentoring programme in high-performance and data-intensive computing.Building on 15 years of proven success, the action will coordinate the European contribution to programme design, instructor participation, mentoring and evaluation, while covering travel and subsistence for selected European students, instructors and returning mentors. The European consortium, comprising institutions and people that have co-organised and led previous editions for over a decade, brings extensive operational, pedagogical and technical experience that ensures continuity, reliability and excellence in delivery. The schools combine lectures, hands-on sessions on leading HPC systems and structured mentoring that fosters career development, diversity and international collaboration.Through its established planning and evaluation framework, EuroIHPCSS will document and continuously refine best practices in HPC education and training, producing annual European reports from each school and an “IHPCSS Implementation Handbook” to guide future editions. The project will work closely with the EuroHPC JU, the National Competence Centres in HPC, CASTIEL, EUMaster4HPC and other initiatives to share outcomes and ensure broad visibility.By training 140-160 European researchers, strengthening mentoring networks and showcasing European expertise on the global stage, EuroIHPCSS will reinforce Europe’s leadership in advanced digital skills, contribute to the Digital Decade objectives, and enhance international recognition of EuroHPC’s education and training excellence.
