The goal is to demonstrate the safety and immunogenicity in UK and West African adults of a vaccine for the Zaire strain of Ebola virus that has shown significant promise in pre-clinical studies conducted at the NIH in collaboration with Okairos, now GSK. Demonstration of the safety and immunogenicity of this vaccine by November 2014 in about 140 subjects would provide WHO with the option of providing this vaccine to affected countries, particularly for use in health care workers, for whom no other intervention is currently available.
