This is a combined renewal bid of two institutional Translational Partnership Awards in which we established the infrastructure to accelerate translation of research towards health value and overcome barriers to translation for technologies, focusing on musculoskeletal health and surgical innovation across robotics, sensing and imaging. This renewal, MedTechONE, will expand the clinical scope to all therapeutic areas, the technology scope to all medtech, and the institutional reach to incorporate all faculties. We will establish at the institutional level the following pillars: - MedTechAccelerator for all medtech researchers that will build on our prior experience of establishing a Quality Management System and a Technology Readiness Level approach to Project Management; - MedTechFoundation supporting early career researchers with a programme of mentoring as well as better and more targeted training of next generation clinical innovators; and - MedTechCollaborative with connections to local and national networks of different clinical specialties. This includes coordinating evaluations of our technologies in wider clinical trials, as well as accepting devices into our medical technologies programme for support at all stages of translation, from first-in-human to early adoption. These pillars will be embedded within the clinical translational ecosystem at Imperial College with a sustainability plan including core institutional support.
