We aim to play a world-leading role in the development of drug discovery for neglected tropical diseases. Our overall vision is to contribute to the elimination of Chagas disease as a public health problem, by discovering and developing new, safe medicines. To achieve this, we aim to develop the drug discovery pathway for Chagas disease and deliver much needed new advanced leads and preclinical candidates for Chagas disease that can be progressed to the clinic by our downstream partners. Pathway deliverables specifically include: - assays to prioritise compounds for drug discovery/ de-select compounds with un-desirable modes of action. - identification and publication of modes of action which are suitable for development. - understanding of compound property requirements for full sterile cure. - insights and approaches that will benefit drug discovery for other NTDs and infectious diseases, in particular those where clinical evidence of relapse may be attributed to persistence (slow growing or dormant, difficult to kill pathogens) - innovative methods for accelerating the drug discovery process for Chagas disease and other neglected tropical diseases.
