Funding for CEPI 2.0’s next five-year business cycle 2022-2027

A global vaccine development organisation is preparing for the next pandemic before it arrives. This matters because the COVID-19 pandemic exposed how fragile the world’s response to novel pathogens really is. When a new virus emerges, the gap between identifying the threat and delivering a working vaccine to everyone who needs it can stretch into years, leaving millions vulnerable. CEPI’s work addresses that gap by building a system that does not start from scratch each time. If this succeeds, the world will no longer rely on ad hoc emergency measures during outbreaks. Instead, pre-agreed rules for financing, allocating, and distributing vaccines will be in place before a crisis hits. That means faster development of countermeasures against known threats like Ebola or Lassa fever, and a transformed ability to respond to entirely new pathogens. The quiet infrastructure that matters here is not roads or power grids, but the governance and collaboration networks that decide who gets a vaccine and when. Without that invisible system, even the best science cannot ensure equitable access.
