OKRE - Sunset Funding Application

OKRE has been invited by Wellcome to apply for Sunset Funding for core operational and salary costs. We are requesting up to £4M over 7 years, to help us move towards sustainability and fulfil the ambitions of Wellcome’s original investment and vision. OKRE is a charity established to support the creation of original, popular entertainment that challenges perceptions and expands people’s understanding of the world. It was created following the success of Wellcome’s Broadcast, Games, and Film work, to enable a more sustainable transformation in how the entertainment industries engage with science and research. In the two years since OKRE achieved operational independence, we have established a profile and impact far outweighing our size. However, a goal of becoming financially independent from Wellcome within five years was not originally envisaged. Core funds are needed to develop our team and succession plan; fundraise and transition to a sustainable revenue model; ensure we achieve our EDI goals; increase our visibility; and improve our operational infrastructure. Based on our work to date, we believe that OKRE remains on target to make the significant, long-term impact across the industries it works as Wellcome originally envisaged. This Sunset Funding will help us to achieve that.
