Human physiology is governed by thousands of dynamic components interacting across vast biological scales. Although advanced imaging has provided key insights into homeostasis and disease, these findings often remain isolated within specific disciplines. We are launching an ambitious, technology-driven program to bridge these gaps. Our approach centres on scale-crossing, multimodal spatial interrogation of 3D functional human cells and tissues. We will combine clinical imaging with ex-vivo tissue analysis in two exemplar disease areas, simultaneously probing dynamic functional behaviour and creating high-dimensional spatial atlases. This integration will reveal a complete mechanistic understanding of human biology, connecting molecular processes to cellular interactions, tissue structure, biomechanics, and whole- organism function. The resulting datasets will define emergent properties, clarify systemic function, and identify novel therapeutic targets and intervention points. We are also committed to establishing new, FAIR and interoperable methods for sharing this diverse data with the scientific community, and accelerating innovative solutions for complex data interpretation. Our vision is to pioneer full mechanistic spatial biology to decode complex human disease and rapidly identify new avenues for treatment.
