Support for IPCC's 7th assessment report meetings

A Coordinating Lead Author is now responsible for writing and delivering major sections of the IPCC’s 7th Assessment Report on climate change. This matters because the IPCC reports are the definitive global summaries of climate science, used by governments, funders, and policymakers to set emissions targets, adaptation strategies, and research priorities. Without rigorous, well-coordinated authors, the report risks gaps, inconsistencies, or outdated information. This grant ensures that Chapter 3—covering key scientific and technical issues—is completed on time, to a high standard, and integrated coherently with the rest of the document. If this work succeeds, the 7th Assessment Report will provide a trusted, up-to-date foundation for international climate policy. That affects decisions on energy grids, infrastructure planning, agricultural practices, and disaster preparedness—systems that quietly underpin daily life. The report will also shape future research funding and public understanding of climate risks. This is not fundamental science; it is the essential work of synthesising and communicating existing science so that it can actually be used.
