MOB-BOT SmartPasture

In plain English

AI plain-English summary

A GPS-guided mobile fencing system called MOB-BOT will automatically move livestock across pastures in precise, controlled rotations, replacing the manual labour of setting up temporary electric fences. Regenerative grazing—moving animals frequently to mimic natural herd movements—improves soil health, boosts biodiversity, and increases forage yields, but it is labour-intensive and difficult to scale. Most farmers lack the time or workforce to shift fences daily across large fields. MOB-BOT solves this by automating the process: the enclosure moves itself on a programmed schedule, while sensors monitor soil compaction, pasture recovery, and animal behaviour in real time. If successful, the system could increase forage yield by up to 30 percent and allow higher stocking rates without degrading the land. The data-driven platform also enables farmers to reintroduce livestock into arable rotations—a practice with significant regional potential in East Anglia—improving nutrient cycling between crop cycles. Beyond individual farms, the project aims to position the region as a leader in agri-tech, creating jobs and strengthening the supply chain for regenerative farming equipment. The modular design means future upgrades could add autonomous mapping, yield forecasting, and biodiversity tracking.

The MOB-BOT SmartPasture project from listt.io aims to develop access to regenerative grazing principles, which offer direct benefit in terms of livestock and pasture productivity, soil health and ecosystem services. By enabling high-frequency, controlled livestock movements and remote monitoring, MOB-BOT supports increased stocking rates, up to 30% greater forage yield, improved pasture recovery, reducing soil compaction and boosting biodiversity. MOB-BOT's precise, GPS-guided movement capabilities allow farms to adjust grazing intervals efficiently, increasing nutrient cycling and soil fertility between crop cycles, making regenerative practices more accessible and the potential impact for widespread. Throughout the project, we will collaborate with our partner farms in the East Anglia region to refine tools for real-time monitoring of livestock behaviour, soil health, and pasture conditions. Our SmartPasture system becomes the data-driven addition to our existing MOB-BOT mob grazing enclosures. With a more data driven approach, grazing patterns can be optimised and adapted to diverse farming systems (including reintroducing livestock into arable rotations - with significant regional potential). In addition to our farming partners we seek to leverage our existing links with academic institutions, the agri-food supply chain and environmental groups, demonstrating the practical implementations and scalable benefits of regenerative agriculture and grazing practices. Beyond this project, MOB-BOT will continue to foster innovation within the cluster. Our modular design allows deployments in different farming systems, ongoing integration of new sensors and advanced features such as autonomous mapping, yield forecasting and biodiversity tracking. Our commercial goals mean that we will have significant economic and social impact in the region - providing employment, contributing to the agri-tech supply chain and the wider economy. At listt.io our approach has always emphasised collaborative innovation which we wish to accelerate with cluster partners to develop complementary technologies, fostering an ecosystem around regenerative agriculture and technology solutions. The MOB-BOT platform will enable further advancements in sustainable land management by allowing partners to incorporate rotational grazing in their operations. With SmartPasture, data-driven improvements such as precision nutrient application or enhanced animal welfare tracking becomes a possibility, meeting farm productivity and environmental goals. By creating scalable, efficient solutions that reduce labour, increase on-farm productivity, and enhance soil health, the MOB-BOT SmartPasture project will position the East Anglia cluster as a leader in regenerative farming solutions. This project aligns with both immediate industry needs and long-term sustainability goals, setting a foundation for continued growth and collaboration within the agricultural technology cluster.
