The problem is straightforward: the UK is admitting record numbers of skilled immigrants, but many lack the advanced communication skills needed to integrate fully into knowledge-intensive workplaces. Existing language training focuses on basic proficiency, not the nuanced professional communication—negotiating, presenting, leading meetings—that determines whether someone advances or remains stuck in a junior role. SSAI builds a VR platform that combines immersive scenarios with phonetic analysis and AI feedback, targeting precisely this gap. If the platform works, it could change how employers and training providers approach professional integration. Instead of generic English classes, a software engineer from Brazil or a project manager from India could practise a performance review or a client pitch in a simulated office, receiving immediate, personalised corrections. The economic impact is direct: faster integration means higher productivity and lower turnover in sectors already struggling with talent shortages. The project does not claim to solve broader social integration, but it addresses a specific, measurable bottleneck in the labour market.
