DTA - Queen's University Belfast

This grant funds doctoral training partnerships, which are the pipeline for training the next generation of scientists and engineers across the UK. Without a steady supply of newly trained researchers, the UK’s ability to innovate in areas such as advanced manufacturing, clean energy, digital infrastructure, and healthcare technologies would stall. This grant addresses that gap by providing the financial and institutional framework for postgraduate research degrees—primarily PhDs—in science and engineering disciplines. The funding goes to a lead organisation (or a consortium of organisations) to support students, their projects, and their supervision. If this training succeeds, the direct impact is a cohort of skilled researchers who will go on to work in universities, industry, government labs, and startups.
