This MSCA PF will bring the emerging early career researcher, currently a postdoctoral researcher at City University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong, to study the highly efficient direct solar thermal energy storage system. The outcome of the project will contribute to advanced thermal storage and management based on a novel direct solar energy storage system and thus more efficient thermal performance, enabling distributed urban energy supply system. The researcher will integrate the measuring tests to study the complicated phase change, ambient water vapour absorption and release, flow phenomena, while a novel thermal energy storage device will be designed and new numerical models of this direct solar thermal energy storage will be developed. The polynomial method will be used to build accurate heat transfer prediction models. The project has been carefully designed to match the researcher's expertise in thermal energy storage background, heat transfer and prediction modelling, the expertise of the host institute, UNEXE in phase change dynamics and thermal experimental skills. The objective of the project is to obtain the scientific basis needed for the design of enhanced direct solar thermal energy storage system using the diverse phase change materials as working fluids, absorb compand as passive thermal enhance module, structural optimisation, and for the development of advance direct solar thermal storage systems for urban distributed thermal energy supply system. In addition to the scientific goals, the researcher will contribute his expertise on polynomial method modelling for heat transfer prediction and will provide important training to EU researchers, industrial contacts and undergraduates.By involving research topics from different fields and collaborations with academic partners, this is a truly interdisciplinary project. The research activities and training in the project will develop the researcher's expertise in direct solar thermal energy storage.
