The Sustainable Energy for Society (SE4S) COFUND programme, coordinated by Fundación Iberdrola España (FIBE), aims to recruit and train 16 excellent postdoctoral researchers through a single international call. SE4S addresses major global challenges such as climate change, biodiversity loss, and resource scarcity. It builds on the strategic priorities of FIBE and the Iberdrola Group, with a strong focus on sustainability, innovation, and decarbonisation. Research activities will be structured across three interrelated and strategic areas: 1-Decarbonised Energy Systems, 2-Biodiversity and Ecosystems Quality, and 3-Circular Economy.SE4S aims to contribute to the development of a new generation of researchers equipped to drive Europe’s clean energy transition and sustainability goals. The programme supports interdisciplinary, intersectoral, and international training and research. Fellows will benefit from excellent research environments and attractive working conditions, including access to high-end infrastructure, supervision by experienced mentors, and tailored training in both technical and transferable skills. SE4S is implemented by a consortium of 19 partner organisations (11 implementing and 8 associated) from 10 countries, covering both academic and non-academic sectors. SE4S promotes structured collaboration between host institutions and associated partners, encouraging joint research initiatives and cross-sectoral knowledge exchange. All fellows will complete a mandatory secondment in the private sector, hosted by Iberdrola Group companies, to ensure exposure to industrial innovation and foster career development beyond academia.
