The InGaGe project aspires to close the loop in the European semiconductor sector by advancing methods for the recovery of semiconductor grade Ga, Ge, In, As, and Sb materials and their integration into the manufacturing of new semiconductor wafers. Contributing to the targets of the Critical Raw Materials Act, the project will result in the production of high purity materials -semiconductor grade purity level- from wasted materials all based on EU sources, significantly strengthening domestic supplies. The targeted raw materials are:•Metallurgical by-products and residues: Ga-rich bauxite residue from alumina production, crude Ga production waste, GaAs wafer production wastes, multi-metal In-rich alloy from the recycling of zinc smelter residues, Sb-rich by-products from copper processing.•Post-consumer (end-of-life) materials: Ge-rich optical cables and LEDs from WEEE and ELVs.Moreover, the project introduces novel green technologies for refining Ga metal into 8N grade and for the manufacturing of InP, and GaN wafers utilizing the recovered material, introducing in the EU market new circular business models.
