Canbex aims to develop a new drug for the alleviation of muscle spasticity, a key symptom of multiple sclerosis (MS). Initial support via a Wellcome Trust University Translation Award and seed investment by Esperante AB and Bloomsbery Bioseed Fund have allowed Canbex to carryout a wide range of preliminary preclinical and biological experiments, all of which indicate that our candidate would make an efficacious and tolerable anti-spastic therapy for multiple sclerosis. Canbex recently secured investment from Fast Forward (the commercialisation arm of the American National MS Society) to support CMC and preclinical rodent toxicity studies. Canbex now propose to proceed with comprehensive pre-clinical, CMC and Phase I on our lead candidate to advance our program toward patient benefit. Our established project team provides biology, medicinal chemistry and lead optimisation expertise alongside globally-leading experimental medicine capabilities and will be augmented with professional consultants in formulation & manufacturing (Advocates). This proposal aims to maximise the benefits to human health arising from Wellcome Trust funded research and also increase the value of the product to move it closer to market.
