Mental health community mobilisation: Influencing the UN High-Level Meeting on NCDs

The Fourth High-Level Meeting (HLM) of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on the prevention and control of non-communicable diseases (NCDs), due to be held in September 2025, is a critical opportunity to advance mental health at global and national levels. It is important that this process is informed by the voices and experiences of local mental health advocates, people with lived experience and civil society from across the world, regardless of location, size and power. They must be given the best opportunity to influence the HLM for national and sub-national progress, as well as shaping the global health architecture. The Global Mental Health Action Network (GMHAN), a global community of over 5000 people from 150 countries, is uniquely placed to play this critical role of mobilising the global mental health community to create a growing momentum that cannot be ignored by the HLM decision makers. We will do this through convening an HLM Mental health Taskforce, convening the HLM Short-Term Action Group, and through civil society consultations. The cost to the GMHAN of leading these efforts will be £369,589 over a one-year period.
