Pan-African Science and Policy Climate and Health Conference 2025: Harnessing Science, Policy, and Partnerships for a Climate-Resilient and Health-Secure Africa

In October 2025, researchers, policymakers, and donors from across Africa will gather in Nairobi to bridge the gap between climate science and health policy. The conference addresses a persistent problem: scientific evidence on how climate change affects health often fails to reach the policymakers who need it. Researchers produce valuable data on heat-related illness, infectious disease shifts, and food security, but without structured channels for translation, this evidence rarely shapes national health strategies or funding decisions. If successful, the conference will build lasting capacity for science-policy translation across African institutions. Participants will share concrete case studies of policy implementation, peer-review scientific abstracts, and produce a final report that distils key discussions into actionable guidance. That report will be disseminated through established networks, potentially influencing how ministries of health and environment design climate-resilient health systems. The project is primarily about convening and knowledge exchange rather than generating new fundamental science. Its impact depends on whether the partnerships and translation practices formed at the conference persist beyond the two-day meeting.
