UK CSO Mental Health Influencing: Data and Evidence

In plain English

AI plain-English summary

Mental health charities, campaign groups, and research organisations across the UK are pooling their data into a single central hub to build a live picture of the nation’s mental health needs. The problem is straightforward: the UK’s mental health system is under enormous strain, but the data needed to prove that to politicians is scattered across dozens of separate organisations. Waiting lists are long, early intervention is patchy, and the economic impact of poor mental health is poorly quantified. Without a unified evidence base, campaigners struggle to make a compelling case to MPs, ministers, and No10 for increased funding or policy change. This grant funds the infrastructure to fix that. A new sector-wide data and evidence network will continuously analyse the combined data, focusing on early intervention, waiting times, and economic activity. The result will be a coordinated, reactive influencing strategy—backed by hard numbers—targeted directly at decision-makers. If it succeeds, the UK’s mental health policy could shift from reactive crisis management toward earlier, more effective support, driven by real-time evidence rather than anecdote.
