A mobile refill service is testing how to park its electric trucks in the right places at the right times to make refill shopping a routine habit, not a special trip. Single-use plastic waste persists because refill systems remain inconvenient. TOPUP TRUCK’s earlier pilot showed that people will refill containers if the truck is easy to reach, but finding and keeping those high-footfall spots is a logistical and bureaucratic friction point. The project tackles that gap: it treats location as a marketing problem, not just a logistics one. If the approach works, the company will produce a “playbook” for scaling—a repeatable method for negotiating with councils, aggregating customer demand, and automating scheduling decisions. That playbook could help other refill services expand without reinventing the wheel each time. The immediate impact is on local supply chains and waste infrastructure: fewer plastic bottles entering household bins, and a clearer path for circular-economy businesses to move from niche to mainstream. The project is applied commercial development, not fundamental science, but its output—a validated scaling model—could quietly reshape how everyday goods reach neighbourhoods.

TOPUP TRUCK presents an innovative solution to combat single-use plastic waste and promote a circular economy. Our mobile refill service operates from electric vehicles, strategically positioned in various neighborhoods, offering convenient access to sustainably sourced products. By encouraging refill shopping and reducing reliance on plastic packaging, TOPUP TRUCK aims to revolutionise traditional retail practices and strive towards net zero. As we near the completion of the Sustainable Street Plan Project (SSPP), supported by Innovate UK, we are excited to introduce TOPUP TRUCK version 2.0\. Building on insights gained from extensive research and development, we have enhanced our service range, vehicle design, website functionality, and overall user experience. Now, we seek pre-commercialisation support to further refine and test our innovative concept in the market, focusing on key areas such as: 1. Marketing Strategy Development: Our marketing approach emphasises the "place" element, strategically positioning our trucks in high-footfall locations to maximise consumer engagement. Through a data-driven marketing plan, we aim to attract and retain customers cost-effectively to support our longterm growth while leveraging insights from previous interventions 2. Scheduling Optimisation: Streamlining our scheduling process is essential for scaling TOPUP TRUCK efficiently. By collaborating with local councils and aggregating customer interest, we aim to automate scheduling decisions, ensuring optimal trading locations and maximising uptake 3. Stakeholder Engagement: Establishing strong relationships with local authorities and community organizations is crucial for securing favourable trading locations and regulatory support. By addressing these challenges and opportunities, we aim to position TOPUP TRUCK for nationwide scalability and long-term success. Our project falls under the umbrella of marketing plan development, with a focus on validated market research and customer engagement strategies. Through innovative approaches to marketing and scheduling, we aim to drive consumer adoption of refill shopping and contribute to the UK Plastic Pact targets.
