The ambition

An open strategic brain for UK R&D

I am Jorge, an independent research intelligence consultant and founder of Magenti Methodologies. This project is my attempt to build a free and open strategic brain for UK research and development: a shared layer of data and intelligence that everyone can use and benefit from.

I believe that making research intelligence more widely available will help scientific endeavour flourish by supporting better strategic decisions about what to fund, which research questions to pursue and who to partner with.

This will be a long and difficult endeavour. I plan to build it step by step, enlisting the help of researchers, funders, organisations and others across the UK R&D ecosystem as it grows.

  1. Wider charity funding data

    Checking the licence allows it

    Ingesting HRCS (Health Research Classification System) datasets to broaden coverage of charity-funded research, so the record reflects more of what UK medical research charities actually fund.

  2. Case studies by topic

    In development

    Case studies for each topic, built by automated information extraction and synthesis across the underlying grant records, so you can read what a field is actually working on rather than browsing it award by award.

  3. Linked research outputs

    Planned

    Showing the publications each grant produced, using Europe PMC and OpenAlex data, so a funded award can be followed through to what it published.
