REVIVE (Non-DestRuctive Evaluation and Service Life Extension of Vulnerable Reinforced Concrete Infrastructure) aims to revolutionise how ageing reinforced concrete (RC) bridges and tunnels are assessed, monitored, and maintained. RC is the backbone of global infrastructure but faces serious deterioration challenges due to corrosion, fatigue, and ageing, leading to high maintenance costs and safety risks. REVIVE develops a new integrated framework combining advanced Non-Destructive Evaluation (NDE) and Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) technologies with artificial intelligence, digital twins, and sustainable materials to predict structural performance and extend service life.The project will merge multi-sensor inspection data (e.g. radar, ultrasound, fibre optics) through AI-driven digital platforms, enabling accurate, real-time condition assessment. Predictive digital twin models will link monitoring data with physical behaviour to support maintenance decisions. REVIVE will also validate eco-friendly repair materials such as recycled and smart concretes, reducing CO2 emissions and supporting circular economy goals.A consortium of leading European and UK universities, research institutes, infrastructure owners, and industry partners will conduct laboratory studies and field demonstrations on real bridges and tunnels. Through international staff exchanges, training, and open science practices, REVIVE will enhance skills, foster innovation, and promote standardised, sustainable asset management. The outcomes will increase infrastructure safety, reduce costs and carbon footprint, and strengthen Europe’s leadership in resilient, digital, and green construction technologies.
