Behaviour change (BC) is essential for addressing the world’s health and other problems. We need to develop more effective interventions to change behaviours of individuals, communities and populations. Some 2,000 BC evaluations are published every day but the process of learning from these is extremely inefficient and currently we are not building the integrated scientific understanding needed to go beyond asking whether intervention X ‘works’ to developing an understanding of: What works, how well, for whom in what setting for what behaviours and why? This research will lead to development of a system for answering that question. It will involve a collaboration of behavioural, information and computer scientists to build and apply a system for machine reading of intervention evaluations to create and update a computational model that can be interrogated to answer key BC questions.
