International Brain Laboratory Core: global dissemination and outreach

The International Brain Laboratory (IBL) has collected unique, open datasets of brain-wide recordings during a standardized mouse behavior. In the next phase, core IBL staff will support the collection, analysis, and dissemination of new experimental datasets from neuroscientists around the world.These datasets are an unprecedented resource, for example enabling scientists globally to perform cutting-edge neuroscience research through data analysis, even if they do not have resources for large-scale experiments. Nevertheless, further work is required to maximize their use and impact in a global and equitable manner. We will do so using four main strategies: 1. Community- building through data analysis workshops, hackathons and competitions, prioritizing under-resourced regions; 2. Development of data pipelines, web interfaces, and analysis tools that simplify use of our data and tools; 3. Lowering barriers to access via a custom AI interface that enables natural- language queries and automated analyses of IBL data; 4. Creating Large Neural Models trained on IBL-scale data to enable state-of-the-art analyses to be performed by labs without large-scale computing resources. Together, these efforts will expand and democratize global access to cutting-edge neuroscience research.
